The fleshy appendages that ring the snout of the star-nosed mole, shown here, make it one strange-looking creature. But when it comes to eating, those 22 tentacles help the mole detect and devour food faster than the human eye can follow – in a fraction of a second. Researchers say the speedy feeding allows the mole to prey on small insect larvae that would otherwise be too energetically costly to eat. The creature lives and forages under the cover of marshes and wetlands along the east coast of North America.

Nope this is not photoshop manipulated. A female polar bear named Pelusa turned purple after she was given a special treatment to clear up a skin condition. This has attracted crowds at the Mendoza City Zoo in Argentina. The fur has returned to normal after a few days.

Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum)

Axolotls fail to undergo metamorphosis and remain aquatic and gilled through adulthood. This unusual species originates from Mexico. It also has the ability to regenerate most body parts. They are commonly kept as pets in the US, UK, Australia, Japan and other countries.

Purple Frog (Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis)

This is one of the freakiest looking creatures on Earth - the Purple Frog. It is also known as Pignose Frog and is native to Western Ghats in India. The frog's reclusive lifestyle is what caused the species to escape earlier notice by biologists. It was discovered only in 2003. This frog's cry sounds more like one from a chicken. The frog spends most of the year underground, surfacing only for about two weeks, during the monsoon, for purposes of mating.

Barred Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma mavortium)

This unique-looking creature named Barred Tiger Salamander is the State Amphibian of Kansas, USA. moist and capable of growing to 14 inches or 35 cm in length

Budgett's Frog (Lepidobatrachus laevis)

Hatchetfish

The Hatchetfish is named for its thin, silvery, hatchet-like appearance, but is on this list for the fact that its eyes are permanently fixed overhead in what looks like an adaptation to the ever-present horror of predators lurking overhead.

The Leafy Sea Dragon

The Leafy Sea Dragon is a type of seahorse that has evolved leaf-like fins that act as camouflage to give the fish the appearance of a clump of floating seaweed. If I had a salt-water aquarium, it would be filled with these things

THE COLOSSOL SQUID

On average, the Colossal squid is only about 3 feet longer than the Giant, but it’s much heavier, and it has light-emitting organs that marine biologists suspect may act as a cloaking device. That’s like a Klingon Bird of Prey that doubles as a Calamari buffet.
